The founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak, was born in 1669. His life was dedicated to spreading the word of god and in fighting a tireless battle against ritualism. He dismantled the barriers of caste and creed, establishing a faith that has twenty-three million followers all the world over. Guru Nanak: His Life and Teachings examines, through his own compositions, the morning prayers, Japji, the establishment of the institutions of sangat and langar and the Guru's message for empowering women. Maps depicting his journeys, reproductions of rare eighteenth century miniature paintings and line drawings and a series from a nineteenth century Janamsakhi that has never been published before, have also been used to illustrate the great man's life in this one-of-a-kind book on one of history's greatest teachers.
