The women’s movement of the 1970s and the study of gender emerged together in India. Today, feminist scholars and activists continue to re-theorize gender as well as its relationship to Indian history. They also remain at the forefront of critiques of Eurocentric theorization and of understanding the effects of globalization on gender.
