This is his sixth book and third biography. Devendra has earlier penned The Nice Guy Who Finished First: A Biography of Rahul Dravid (2005) and SMG: A Biography of Sunil Manohar Gavaskar (2009). He also holds the unique distinction of scripting documentaries on Sachin Tendulkar to mark the 100th and 200th Tests of his career, in 2002 (Television) and 2013 (Web), respectively. Devendra lives in Mumbai with his wife and two children.
The book takes the oft-repeated adage, ‘Cricket is a religion in India’, very seriously. It goes on to divide Sachin Tendulkar’s remarkable life into three sections and details his growth from a ‘Prodigy’ to a ‘Preceptor’.
