Dr Biswarup Banerjee did his schooling in Delhi and went on to attend St. Stephen's College, Delhi. His thesis advisor at Heidelberg, Germany, was the Nobel laureate professor J.H.D. Jensen. He later joined the Theoretical Physics Group in the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai and worked there till his retirement. His research work has been mainly in the fields of theoretical nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics. He has been a visiting scientist/professor at the universities of Munich, Oxford, Paris, Pisa, California (Berkeley) and Chicago among others.
