This work has two parts: Part1, a detailed description 01 the more common mineral varieties of the common rock-forming mineral groups, and Part II, an abbreviated summary of the essential optical constants and occurrence of all nonopaque mineral varieties. In view of the questionable status of many mineral varieties, the lack of published optical data on others, and the rapid discovery of new minerals, no single published work may ever contain truly all critical data on all nonopaque minerals; however, we have done our best to gather and filter as much data as possible and organize them into a usable form for.
