I have structured the contents of the book considering the U.G. and P.G. syllabus of different universities regarding Microbial Metabolism. It is not possible to understand the metabolism without the basic knowledge of biochemistry. Considering this fact, I have focused on inter-relationship between biochemistry and metabolism in Chapter-1, and Basic Biochemistry in Chapters-2, 3, 4 and 5. Since the enzymes play indispensable role in metabolism, study of enzymes has been focused in Chapter-6 and Chapter-7. Chapter-8 and Chapter-9 deals with the carbohydrate metabolism as it is the backbone of all metabolic processes. The most common mechanisms of ATP generation, i.e., Respiration and Photosynthesis are discussed in Chapter-10 and Chapter-11. The metabolism of other three biomolecules, i.e., proteins, nucleic acids and lipids that plays vital role in microbial metabolism has been discussed in Chapter-12, 13 and 14.
