Dr. Alam Singh is presently Principal and Director (Academic), Sri Balaji College of Engineering and Technology, Jaipur, and Chairman & Director, Consulting Engineers Group Ltd., Malviya Nagar, Jaipur. Formerly he was the Professor and Head of Civil Engineering, MBM Engineering College, Faculty of Engineering, University of Jodhpur, Jodhpur. After graduation (B.E. Civil Hoes.) from the University of Roorkee, Roorkee, in 1951, he joined as Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at the MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur. Obtained Ph.D. Civil Engineering from University of Jodhpur in 1969. Was promoted as Reader and soon as Professor & Head, Civil Engineering and continued as such for about 23 years, ietiring in 1987. During this period he has been Visiting Professor, College of Military Engineering, Pune; Hony. Director, Rural Housing Wing, Government of India, located at Jodhpur; Hony. Chief Engineer, University of Jodhpur, and Dean, Faculty of Engineering. He is the Fellow, Indian Geotechnical Society Member, Indian Roads Congress, Indian Society of Engineering Geology, Indian Water Resources Society and Indian Society of Earthquake Technology. An eminent soil engineer, Professor Alam Singh has made significant contribution in the field of Soil and Geotechnical Engineering, authored four books on the subject and has contributed 70 resear review papers. Was awa special merit pay by Government of Rajasthan for instrument development work in soil testing and was felicitated by Vadodra Chapter, Indian Geotechnical Society for work in Geotechnical Engineering and Desert Technology. He was the convenor during 1971-87 and Member during 1964-87 for the various committees appointed to finalize Indian Standards Specifications by Bureau of Indian Standards and was involved in finalizing 83 IS codes. He has been a Member of the Planning Group, National Committee on Science and Technology, Member of the Planning and Implementation of the MOST for several research schemes. He was Member of the Research Development Committee of Institution of Engineers; Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, CRRI; Soil Engineering Committee, IRC; Scientific Advisory Committee, CBRI; and Member Editorial Board of IGS and IRC. He participated in 16 Conferences, Seminars and Symposia of national and international importance. As Chairman and Head Geotechnical Division, CEG Ltd., he has been responsible for geotechnical investigations, foundation design and investigations of failure of buildings and bridges and other structures for more than 500 projects. He has also suggested remedial measures for various Civil Engineering structures concerning soil and foundation problems.
