Their common goal was to develop a set of unique and flexible laboratory activities focusing on the theory and practice of biotechnology.

While the topics and experiments included represent major areas of biotechnology they may be used in any applicable science course.: The experiments are designed to utilize many resources already available in most science departments. Care has been taken to avoid duplicating research protocols and laboratory experiments that may be available in existing laboratory manuals. These unique and practical modules are safe accurate and appropriate for implementation in academic science laboratories. Each module opens with safety guidelines materials needed and pre-lab preparation segments Methods for each experiment are outlined clearly and followed by a discussion of results.
