Beginning with characteristic differences between eukaryotes and prokaryotes the book depicts the various methods employed to characterise and cultivate bacteria. Several staining procedures have been compiled at one- place. The subject matter for various biochemical tests and their results are illustrated by color plates and line diagrams. A major section of the book deals with the occurrence morphology and various biochemical assays for isolating and identifying a wide range of bacteria. The chapter has been made complete by giving the expected results and flowcharts to make identification easier till the species level.</span><br></p>
