<p>This book probes two broad themes: socioeconomic and cultural ramifications of trade between India and Mainland South­east Asia and the processes behind the local­isation of Indian religiocultural influences in Southeast Asia. The areas covered in the book stretch from the Yunnan area of China in the north to the southernmost borders of Thailand in the south and the Andaman Sea coast of Thailand in the west to the eastern coast of Vietnam in the east. About the Author Birendra Nath Prasad is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Historical Studies Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi where he teaches economic and maritime history of ancient and early medieval India social history of religion in ancient and early medieval India and history of Southeast Asia to c. 1500 CE. His recent publications include Archaeology of Religion in South Asia: Buddhist Brahmanical and Jaina Religious Centres in Bihar and Bengal c. ad 6001200 Rethinking Bihar and Bengal: History Culture and Religion and Religion in Society: Social Dimensions of Buddhism Hinduism and Jainism in India.
