The discipline of Politics with specialization in International Studies seeks to prepare students with the basic intellectual tools for understanding of interdisciplinary analysis. It not only introduces students to some of the most important theoretical approaches for studying international studies across the globe but also focuses the general conceptual understanding of Sociology, History and Economics.
The discipline begins by historically contextualizing the evolution of the international state system before discussing the agency structure problem through the levels-of-analysis approach. After having set the parameters of the debate, students are introduced to different theories in International studies. It provides a fairly comprehensive overview of the major political, social, historical and economic developments and events starting from the twentieth century. A key objective of the course is to make students aware of the implicit Euro-centricism of International studies by highlighting certain specific perspectives from the Global South.
As a discipline, Politics (specialization in International Studies) is much more comprehensive and includes different forms of speculation in interdisciplinary studies such as Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, History and economics respectively. The present book is a combination of International Studies and other interdisciplines as well. The book has been written to help the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University M.A. Entrance Examination but it will enhance the understanding of all those interested in contemporary subjects of politics.
