<p>This volume is divided into four thematic parts. Part 1 examines the narratives of Indian women and labor during and after indenture in India Suriname and Sri Lanka. The chapters offer fresh insights into the experiences of women within patriarchal plantation systems and highlight the stories of those left behind when their spouses migrated overseas. Part 2 delves into the lesser-known aspects of Hindustani life in the Netherlands revealing the community's struggles with mental health alcoholism depression and educational achievements through intensive ethnographic research. Part 3 explores the intersections of religion arts and identity in Suriname. Two chapters compare traditional Indian music (birhá) with blues while another examines body markers as identity symbols among different ethnic groups. The final chapter in this section discusses the historical role of churches and religions in Suriname. Part 4 focuses on the rich cultural legacy transported from India to the Caribbean highlighting its enduring impact on music and traditions. One chapter explores the Indo-Caribbean experience while two others examine specific aspects of culture in Trinidad and Tobago.</p>
