The Parliament enacted the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970 with the object of abolition of contract labour in respect of such categories as may be notified by the appropriate Government in the light of criteria laid down in the Act and also regulating the service conditions of contract labour where abolition is not possible. But this Act, now in force for over five decades has not been satisfactorily enforced and has resultantly led to enormous litigation all around. This book covers a wide range of topics pertaining to industrial disputes and adjudication process. It is intended to meet the requirements of the officers of public and private sectors since it provides on the basis of judicial decisions permissible area of interference of principal employers in selection of contract labour and direction, supervision and control over the work done by them.
