<p>Jatakas is one of the threefold Pali Buddhist Canon or Pitakas. It contains around 550 stories from previous births of Buddha both in human and animal forms. This illustrates the spiritual practices acts qualities and personality of Buddha. The Jataka stories narrate how Buddha plays the role of an intermediator and gives a happy ending. Jatakas also narrate how to achieve Buddhahood and narrates the story within the framework of Karma and rebirth. Jatakas were translated into many modern European and Indic languages such as German Hindi etc. Stories of the Buddha contains 47 selected tales collected from the original Jatakas translated into English to make the teachings of Buddha alive in the minds of modern readers and scholars associated with Buddhism. About the Author C.A.F. Rhys Davids (18571942) was a Pali scholar and the honorary secretary of the Pali Text Society from 1907 and its president from 1923 to 1942. She was educated at University College London. She was served as Lecturer in Indian Philosophy at Victoria University of Manchester (19101913) and Lecturer in the History of Buddhism at SOAS (19181933). She wrote several books such as Buddhism: A Study of the Buddhist Norm Buddhist Psychology: An Inquiry into the Analysis and Theory of Mind in Pali Literature A Manual of Buddhism for Advanced Students Outlines of Buddhism: A Historical Sketch etc.</p>
