<p>The Buddhist Legend of Jîmûtavâhana is a theatrical play associated from the play Nâgânanda. This play was written in the Sanskrit language which was attributed to Harsha (r. 60648 ce) of the Pushyabhuti kingdom who was the ruler of Kannauj (not to be confused with the ruler of Kashmir). This was later mentioned in the famous Kathasaritsagara of Somadeva and Brihatkathamanjari of Kshemendra which was written in the eleventh century ce. Though the date and exact authorship are uncertain scholars agree that it was written during the seventh century ce. About the Author B. Hale Wortham (18431928) was a British clergyman and a Sanskrit translator. He was educated at Trinity College Oxford in 1863. He served as a vicar at Hertfordshire and Ware in 187480 and 1911 respectively. He translated works like The Satakas of Bhartrihari Hitopadesa or The Book of Good Counsel (Transl. of the Mârka??eya Purâ?a) The Story of Devasmitâ (Transl. from the Kathâ Sarit Sâgara).</p>
