Girish Karnad (1938-2019) was a playwright, actor and director. Hisnotable plays include Yayati, Tughlaq,Hayavadana, Nagamandala, amongothers. He directed a number of filmincluding the acclaimed Utsav. His work brought him numerous honours,including multiple National Film andFilmfare Awards, the Padma Shri, thePadma Bhushan and the Jnanpith Award.Srinath Perur has previously translated Vivek Shanbhag's Ghachar Ghochar.
